Investing in yourself means investing in your health!

The truth is, you have made some recent deposits and withdrawals of the sexual kind. The fact is, HIV is most often spread during sex.

According to the CDC, about 90% of new HIV infections result from sexual activity.

As of 12/31/2018, 41% of living cases had male-to-male sex as the point of transmission, 29% of new transmissions were from male-to-male sexual contact, 65% of new cases of HIV in Hudson County are from sexual contact, MSM are 69% of HIV positive population in US in 2019.

That is why it is important to know your status, practice safe-sex and learn about other preventative treatments. Making knowledgeable choices will protect your most important asset...YOUR HEALTH!

The activities with the highest risk for HIV infection are:

  • Receptive anal sex (bottoming)

  • Insertive anal sex (topping)

  • Receptive vaginal sex

  • Insertive vaginal sex

  • Having unprotected sex

  • Having many sex partners

Ending the HIV Epidemic in Hudson County

SEX IN THE COUNTY

You are in control! Talk to your partner(s) about HIV. Your health is not negotiable. Ask whether they have been tested and what the results were. Remember to always use condoms.

Here are some tips on how and when to use them during different sexual activities.

Fewer partners = Lower risks

When you have fewer partners, you
have a smaller sexual network. And
a lower chance of contact with
someone who has HIV. Consider PrEP as a preventative treatment if you have multiple sexual partners.

Party & Play

Never share needles, syringes, or other drug injection equipment. Use sterile injection supplies.

Proper condom use

Syringe Harm reduction

PrEP UP!

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a daily pill people at risk for HIV take to prevent getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. When taken as prescribed, and combined with the use of condoms, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV.
